Looks like there is a bug in the perl script which makes the irc client there.
You can use a normal irc client such as:

mirc for windows http://www.mirc.com/
ircle for mac http://www.ircle.com/
xchat for linux http://www.xchat.org/ (or will be installed already if
youre on ubuntu)

You choose the server network freedone
irc.freenode.net
Then once the server has connected as you can see it did for nicholas
choose the channel wikia
You can do this by typing
/join #wikia
