1) if you think racism isnt still as prevalent today as it was in the 60's
you need to wake up. James Baldwin wrote in the 60's that Americans "are
still trapped in a history which they do not understand; and until they
understand it, they cannot be released from it." 40 years later, it is
still the case. Why would the government discuss putting up a wall/fence on
the mexican border if racism wasnt involved? it's the rednecks of the
country saying "i dont want that mexican to take my job." It has little to
do with national security.
2) if you think abortion is the #1 "evil" today, you need to wake up. there
are plenty of things that conservatives view as "evil" that they are
fighting against and abortion doesnt get as much media attention as gay
marriage or the war. America is in a war, you know. Which i would actually
consider an evil today that has had the largest impact on american politics
in the 2000's. abortion doesnt sway elections like gay marriage did in
2004. abortion wont sway the election this year nearly in any fashion
compared to how the loathing toward the war will sway it.
