Maclay" , Erica George Hello! We've asked you to be part of a speed geeking session. This is high energy, exhausting and really fun way to share with everyone what you are up to. Here's how it works. We will set each of you up, with your computer, in one of two large rooms. We will divide the working meeting into 10 groups of 2-3. Each group will spend 7 minutes each at your speedgeeking station (you'll make your presentation 10 times in 70 minutes ? after this, the elevator pitch will be easy!). To prepare ? practice with a friend. Spend 4 minutes showing off your tool/site, leaving 3 minutes for questions. Make it interactive, going from page to page on your site. Tell a story or two about how its used to bring the site to life. Then answer questions and take your breath for the next group! Below is a list of all the speed geekers and what they will be presenting. Please let us know if you need any equipment anything above a power cord and we will need some time to acquire. The Berkman Institute has wifi in the rooms to be used for the demos. Anyone that has demos that need high band widths for videos let me know so we can make sure you have an Ethernet cord. Do it with a friend. Step up and stick up an A4 page saying I am interested in this issue Friend step up and say i think this different way. Both stick up reference materials Perhpas supporting both sides randomly, just information on the topic then stick up a couple of proposals And stick up a plan about how you are going to make something happen which promotes or supports those ideas Stick up an election card. and ask the audience to vote. Stick up a card which documents the outcome, ie majority A or Majority B Velcro backed laminated a4 sheets or similar would work You could do that inside a powerpoint presentation but it would be more 'real' if it was two people scrambling about with information. So far we've received five calls-for-deletion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/American_Nihilist_Underground_Society http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/American_Nihilist_Underground_Society_(2nd_nomination) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/American_Nihilist_Underground_Society_(3rd_nomination) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/American_Nihilist_Underground_Society_(fourth_nomination) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/American_Nihilist_Underground_Society_(2) One reason ANUS suffers I think is that we have never considered documenting our "notability," which in part may come from our status online since 1993 and the literal millions who have viewed the page. It's an odd quandary. Next, on the four minutes, here's how I do complex presentations: 1) description of goal in a short paragraph 2) bullet points for methods 3) question and answers cheers Indo-European music, including classical, black metal, electronica, folk, medieval, electronoir, baroque, opera and traditional popular music, is shared at the Neoclassical Hub for DirectConnect users. What I miss is : 1. Space for the arguments pro et contra, or pointer to such arguments, preferrably Wiki-style. Wikia might evolve to become one of the defacto sites for this ? 2. Automatic creation of a counter-petition There might be some downsides to the latter. And I think that level-headed arguments supported by "facts" should have more weight than the sheer number of people that have been "lured" to choose a particular option. Also bear in mind the very real possibilities for fraud in such petitions. Some of the same concerns arise as in electronic voting. I have myself tested voting repeatedly in online polls from different machines or even different browsers on the same machine, or deleting cookies and voting again. I am quite sure that such things can be automated, even picking phony/lent adresses from a phone-book. For e-voting problems, see e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacking_Democracy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Box_Voting Best Regards, Morten --- Janet Hawtin wrote: > http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/softwarepatents/ > > this looked like a nice way to do petitions > > janet > _______________________________________________ > Campaigns-l mailing list > Campaigns-l at wikia.com > http://lists.wikia.com/mailman/listinfo/campaigns-l > Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com From p.hatzopoulos-alumni at lse.ac.uk Thu Jan 11 15:55:28 2007 From: p.hatzopoulos-alumni at lse.ac.uk (p.hatzopoulos-alumni at lse.ac.uk) Date: Thu, 11 Jan 2007 15:55:28 -0000 Subject: [Campaigns-l] Call for papers - Wiki politics Message-ID: Hello, I have subscribed to the list. I am sending out a "call for papers" - maybe someone from the list might be interested in contributing. Pavlos Wiki politics The new online journal Re-public (www.re-public.gr/en) invites contributions for its upcoming special issue entitled ?Wiki politics?. The democratic promise of the Internet has remained partly unfulfilled. It is still doubtful how the use of new collaborative tools (wikis, blogs, forums, mailing lists, podcasting, and videos) can transform the ways politics are practiced and how the increasing prospects for larger political participation can result to the emergence of active citizens. Perhaps, it is essential to start from the concrete: Wiki politics is a concept that encompasses existing practices which instantly give birth to new democratic forms. They produce a particular form of political participation -horizontal and equitable- which operates on the basis of the principles of decentralisation and openness. The issue aims to explore the openings that the concept of the ?wiki politics? presents for democratic theory and practice. Possible topics include: * Horizontal forms of politics * self-organizing networks * collective intelligence * wikis, new identities, new collectivities * wikis and political campaigns * wikifying knowledge * technologies of cooperation (wikis, blogs, forums, mailing lists, podcasting, and videos) Essays should be approximately 1.000 words long. We will also publish journalistic pieces or reports of shorter length. Please submit contributions in any electronic format to: phatzopoulos AT re-public.gr Deadline for articles: 10 March 2007 For more information, see www.re-public.gr/en/ From cristorly at yahoo.com Tue Jan 23 00:20:30 2007 From: cristorly at yahoo.com (Orlando Alcantara CRISTORLY) Date: Mon, 22 Jan 2007 18:20:30 -0600 (CST) Subject: [Campaigns-l] Thanks for Campaigns Wikia Message-ID: <536298.69765.qm@web32111.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Thanks a lot for letting me be part of this new community. I had to block one user for a week because of inappropriate content, and one IP address is encouraging it a little bit. Are direct talks with Iran that controversial? :) Chad On 1/31/07, Chad Lupkes wrote: > Hi everyone, > > I've started a new page, asking the question whether > Campaigns.Wikia.com can begin direct talks with the people of Iran. > Bold step?
