Hi
Long time nobody wrote anything about Grub status, so now I try ;)
This summary can be a little incomplete.
1. Database
Maybe this is not part of project, but Grub (and all Wikia Search)
strongly depends on it. At this moment we use HBase as a software and
here is one "small" problem. Today HBase is in alpha stage and "little"
unstable. And only one person in our project (Seth) work on it.
Stability is not only one problem with HBase. Second is hard way to
retrieve informations from database. Seth working on communication
between database and Grub, but because he's main role is SysAdmin for
project, this work goes slowly.
2. Servers
At this moment we have written only very simple Grub servers. They are
Perl scripts working at Apache server. In SVN repository you can find
two scripts: for creating workunits -
http://svn.swlabs.org/grubng/trunk/perl/workunit.pl and dispatch
"server" - http://svn.swlabs.org/grubng/trunk/perl/dispatch.cgi. At
this moment Jeremie maintain this version of servers. Additional - Seth
start work at new version of servers (standalone, written in Java), but
work on it goes slowly - mainly by problems with HBase.
3. Clients
a. C client
Good summary wrote some time ago Balinny - http://grub.org/?q=/node/40
There you find all informations about this client.
b. C# client
Here i can write few 100% sure informations ;) At this moment newest
version of client is 0.7.8. It has little better memory management than
earlier version, thus is little less bloated ;) Unfortunately, there
are still few problems with Windows version. But with this i need help.
I created a special version of Windows version
(http://grub.org/?q=/node/132) which produce more information when
program crash, but use a lot of more memory when running (even 2 times
more). If someone can run this version and report bug at bugtrack
http://grub.org/?q=/project/issues/csharp with error.log file attached
to report it would be nice ;)
4. Page
Grub page slowly go ahead. I moved most of documentation of project
from wiki to page (in Documentation: http://grub.org/?q=/node/2) and
soon I try add more (maybe short theoretical info about clients and
servers, guide how to contribute to project). If anyone have any ideas
about page please contact with me.
Ok, that's all for now - probably I don't make too much mistakes here
(Jeremie and Seth - can you check it?). If someone have any questions
or suggestions about project feel free to post it ;)
Bartek
