Hmm... that's an interesting supposition.  When I started with wiki
directory 2 years ago, the naysayers said the same kinds of things:  a
directory in a wiki will get spammed to death.  Now, 2 years later with
25,000 websites and about 3,000 registered users (which is totally optional,
by the way, just like Wikipedia) it's looking pretty okay.  Really, our
biggest problem isn't spam; it's non-neutral language and an overabundance
of commercial websites.

But I've gotta say, I'm very tempted to write a "search" layer on top of the
directory, and I'll have something like what you're describing:  websites
associated with search results (right now they're categorized) and a place
to describe and discuss each website.
