Free.. I guess u r missing the philosophies behind free and open software
here fully..

A person will work for free only if it is needed for him in his daily work..
All open source and free software that evolved popular followed the same
principle before actually making some profit.

I guess you are aiming to commercialize rather than making a project
social.. its no use of talking about the *free* software to u i guess..

Does anyone even know what wikia search is right now? Is it lucene-based,

Dont know what Jermie and Jimmy are planning.. As they are project owners,
they have the full rights to make it a open model or closed model.. If they
plan to make it private and employ some people like you do then, most of the
open source people who came to contribute will layout from this project..

 AFAIK, all open and free software are started by non-profit organization
and community picks up it and adds features of their interest. The main
objective of the free/open software is not just commercialization. Its all
about socializing and freedom so that the whole world benefits from it..
There shouldn't be a central point which bags all the money and invests all
the money..
