Heh, I think Facebook is trying hard for that, not in respect to  
vaporware but more so as an owned platform :)

As for having something to play with by December, that's a great goal  
and all, but it isn't going to be anything but experimental and  
rather tiny at best by then.  The current thinking is to get the Grub  
crawling at least somewhat stable and start to have an experimental  
nutch/lucene based index atop it, along with testing some social  
feedback ideas in the result pages.
