I am the author and so far, it's maintained. :-)
Although you may prefer to wait until FetchPage is made reentrant.

Agree. Although i'd prefer just to not use the same credentials for 
getting the workunits. Rather
use the credentials to get a token, and use the token to get the 
workunits. The tokens can be
valid until manual expiration, per X hours, n workunits or a combination 
of all above.
The use of tokens would allow to crawl from shared boxes without the 
fear of other users / rogue
admins getting over your credentials.
