[Search-l] Spell Checking

Hello all, my name's Camden Daily, and I'm new to the list. I was wondering
if the wikia project has any plans to create a 'Did you mean' type of spell
checker, and if so, an API to make use of it.
I have spent a couple of years now trying to find a commercial, high volume
spell checker like the ones provided by the (now defunct) Google SOAP API,
or Microsoft or Yahoo's limited, non commercial APIs. I have an application
that provides this spell checking ability to library web catalogs, and they
require good recommendations for proper nouns like book titles and names of
authors.
If no one is currently working on this, I'd like to help out a bit. I've
been working on the side trying to use the n-gram spell checker built into
the Lucene project with a dictionary built from the XML for
en.wikipedia.org(minus the talk). I'm hoping that it can provide me
with a reasonable
alternative for my specific project, but I would be interested in any other
work in this area.
Thanks,
Camden Daily
