There are a few reasons for this. One is simply to decrease spam or
make it easier to deal with. If someone does nothing other than link
to their own SEO company on the Mini:SEO page, it's not helpful to the
searcher at all. That link, if good, will be in the search results
page, not on the article.
Another reason is to encourage the addition of useful information
right there on the wiki, rather than needing to follow a link. One big
aim of mini-articles is to provide disambiguation between different
meanings of the same search term. If I search for "Michael Wechner",
I'd like the mini-article to tell me if the links are going to tell me
about the founder of Wyona or about one of the many of Michael
Wechners. A link alone doesn't do that. Some text, or context, is
needed to make the article useful.
