It would be nice to add the same functionality to all the themes,
otherwise we force everyone to use this particular one (which I
personally dislike, because too much space is taken by the right
column and the top bar).

I think the rating system (the stars on the right) should be part of
the Tip template, both because it would limit the rating to the tips
themselves, and because it would work with any theme. Is it possible?
