[Vim-l] how to deal with old versions of vim

How should we deal with tips for old vim-versions ?

In the book "Hacking Vim" they have some recipes (some even taken from 
the tips). They have the approach to use icons "As of vim 6.0" and 
similar. I would like something like that.

If some tip is superseeded by a new version (like spelling), I would say 
so as a last comment (with references), but keep the tip intact.
