We have VimTipNr pages that assist with tip navigation (previous/next). For example,
tip 1 has pages:
VimTip1 a redirect to the tip page
The super star the page for tip 1
Also, Bram still has the original tips at vim.org, and each tip has a link to our
VimTipNr page.
VimTip1 contains wikitext:
#REDIRECT [[The super star]][[Category:VimTipRedirects]]
I'm planning to remove that category to simplify our VimTipNr pages (which we have
to edit when a tip is renamed). AFAIK the category serves no useful purpose. I'll
use my bot to do this if there is no objection before next Saturday.
We also have a couple of hundred VimTipNr pages that explain the fate of other tip
numbers, for example, here are original missing, removed, original duplicate:
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/VimTip508
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/VimTip511
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/VimTip512
I will keep the categories on those pages. These are handled by a bot, and the
category potentially has some administrative value.
Carpetsmoker has expressed the view that VimTipNr pages (and maybe tip numbers?) are
not needed at all (except for the link from Bram's web site). I'm beginning to see
some sense in that argument. Originally, many tip titles were totally hopeless
(long, misspelt, misleading), and we really needed tip numbers as a shorthand (apart
from their tradition). I'm not ready to explore a proposal to remove tip numbers
yet, but if anyone wants to add an opinion, please do so.
