I just sent a question to the wikia mailing list and got two replies in six
minutes(!):

I won't bother fixing the to-be-deleted redirects this time, but I'll know
what to do next time.

The second piece of advice sounds more reliable (and in retrospect belongs
to the "bleeding obvious" category:). It says:

Change unwanted redirect:
 #REDIRECT [[Whatever]]

to:
 {{delete}}
 <nowiki>#REDIRECT</nowiki> [[Whatever]]

Then the [[Whatever]] link is still available if you want to click it.
