Since June 2007, when bastl imported the tips from vim.org, 50 new tips have
been created on the wiki (plus a couple of junk pages which I have flagged
for deletion).
I have developed a procedure for handling new pages, and you can admire a
list of all new tips at
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Vim_Tips_Wiki:Proposed_new_tips
I have edited each new tip by inserting a TipProposed template, and have
done some routine editing like inserting pre and tt tags, deleting excess
whitespace, joining paras, etc. I fixed a couple of typos and bad
expressions, but essentially I left the tip as the author wrote it.
Some of the tips are pretty weak, for example, they may simply repeat info
that we already have.
My plan:
- Get some discussion here and/or on the above wiki page.
- In late February, make a decision about which new tips to keep.
- For those tips, change template TipProposed to TipNew.
For each tip, we need to decide:
- Should it be kept?
- Should any useful content be moved to another tip?
- Should it be deleted?
The list of proposed new tips is in alphabetical order. I also have a list
in date-created order, and will use that list to manually assign a tip id to
the tips we decide to keep. We currently have tips 1 to 1504. The first new
tip will be 1505, the next 1506, etc.
All old tips now use the TipImported template. I will periodically check for
new pages, and insert the TipProposed template in them. When we decide to
keep a new tip, I will change the template to TipNew with a unique id and
correct previous/next navigation.
Please give some feedback.
John
