[Vim-l] Candidates for deletion

Fritzophrenic has commented on my proposal to delete a redirect page (he's making
the valid point that we should keep old titles as redirects so inward links continue
to work). I agree in general, but I'm not sure that Fritzophrenic has noticed which
redirect I was hoping to delete.

Consider tip 810 http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/VimTip810

This tip has had three titles:
 2007-06-04: Highlighting Text Beyond 80 Columns [imported tip]
 2007-10-18: Highlight text beyond 80 columns [from "titles project"]
 2008-08-27: Highlight long lines [renamed after recent cleanup]

The "titles project" was the bulk renaming exercise where we considered the title
for each tip, then ran a bot to rename 578 tips as agreed. You can see the original
titles (some of which are severely broken) at

I don't see why we should keep the redirects for the 578 bulk-renamed tips. Those
titles were valid only for a fairly short time (a time when the wiki was new and not
well known).

In conclusion, I'm suggesting that we:
1. Delete the "Highlighting Text Beyond 80 Columns" redirect.
2. Keep the "Highlight text beyond 80 columns" redirect.

Please add opinions here or on the "Candidates for deletion" talk page. As you can
see on that talk page, I'm not too fussed about the fate of the above example, but
there are lots of cases where the original title was silly or broken, and I don't
want to keep those.
