Perhaps I should start pushing for Semantic Drilldown now, the inclusion
of Semantic extensions into Wikia seams overally slow.
This may also stem from a misunderstanding of Semantic MediaWiki. It
looks like some people find Semantic MediaWiki to be something that only
makes editing and navigation more complex. But it is far from that. I'll
admit that Semantic MediaWiki on it's own can look complex with the
syntax it uses to annotate stuff, but even SMW on it's own is not meant
to make editing any more complex, editing complexity stems from a misuse
of SMW rather than the extension itself. SMW is meant to be used in an
abstracted way, for the most part most of the data can be extracted by
making improvements to already existing templates.
Another misunderstanding is that SMW makes navigation more complex.
Vanilla SMW is meant to be slim, it attempts to only include what is
necessary to make a wiki semantically enabled. Any extra query formats,
editing tools, and navigation tools are all broken up into other
extensions built off of SMW. To be honest, just installing Semantic
MediaWiki on it's own, and saying that it makes editing to complicated,
or makes it hard for readers to navigate is kind of like installing
vanilla MediaWiki and complaining that it doesn't include the
functionality broken up into ParserFunctions and Cite.
Semantic Drilldown is the navigation portion of Semantic MediaWiki. It's
the bridge between simple navigation structures (like Categories), and
complex querying (Ask queries). Using it one could drill into say the
"Characters" in Naruto, and drill down that list of characters by pieces
of information they select.
An example (kinda large in the set of information, actual wiki like the
Narutopedia don't have as many categories so they should be quite easier
to use):
