[Wikia-l] What is the Rule of thumb of merging

In general for Entertainment wikis, we've found that specific wikis do
better than general wikis. The wikis about Naruto and One Piece are more
successful than the general wiki about anime; the wikis about Star Wars and
Star Trek are better at attracting contributors than the wiki about
science-fiction.
Wikis seem to work best when they're targeted at a level where people get
passionate. There are a lot of people who love the Simpsons who don't really
care about other kinds of animation, so they'll contribute to the Simpsons
wiki but wouldn't bother working on a general Cartoons wiki. On the other
hand, anybody who likes Lisa Simpson also likes the Simpsons as a whole, so
a specific Lisa Simpson wiki wouldn't work either. You have to find the
level where people really care.
So... Dark Shadows is a soap opera, yeah. But it's an active community, and
I'm not sure that the people working on the Dark Shadows wiki would be
interested in merging with a general Soap Operas wiki. No harm in asking,
though.
