On a side note, I've noticed that some sites are moving the search form in Monobook below the bottom of the first screen, along with the link to "What links here". Minor annoyance.

I don't like Monaco, because I don't like the advertising. Switching to Monobook minimizes that for me.
Hi John,

#most popular# is meant to be editors pick where as #most visited# is most pageviews. I am not sure why the changes you made to Mediawiki:Most_popular_articles are not showing. I will look into this.

Personally, I prefer to add more Categories to the Nav Menu , rather than having customizing the Top Content menu as readers can quickly scan the left hand nav and see all the different content.

You can do this by adding all your popular categories as new bullets "#Category-VimTip#" on http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar. It will automatically populate with the 7 most visited articles in that category.

Or you can do it super manual like ffxi http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar

Let me know if you need any other help

Best,
Angie

On Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 2:46 AM, John Beckett <johnb.beckett@gmail.com> wrote:
According to the docs:
http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Customizing_Monaco

...I can set MediaWiki:Most_popular_articles to a list of
pages, and those pages will replace the "Editor's pick" (highest
traffic) list in the default Monaco sidebar.

I did that 50 hours ago:
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Most_popular_articles

Despite purging, and flushing browser cache, my list seems to
have been ignored. Will it eventually appear when the servers
decide to flush their relevant cache?

What is the format of the list? I assume:
*[[First title]]
*[[Second title]]
*[[Third title]]

I wonder what is the difference between #popular# (highest
traffic) and #visited# (most traffic)?

Is there any all-the-details documentation? The source?

John
